Another chapter of the screening series Beyond Belief presents a selection of artistic films that turn to the past and future of communities whose bodies and everyday lives bear the traces of Western dominance. Yet they preserve their own cultures, stories, and metaphysical frameworks that resist the hegemonic logic of the West. These Other worlds, which the curatorial program seeks to capture, may appear from the perspective of white modernity as fiction, allegory, or alternative realities. However, they represent very real forms of existence, interwoven with ancestral legacies as well as visions of the future. For in these narratives, time and the relationships to human and non-human bodies and to the landscape are not as linear and unequivocal as in the European cultural tradition.
